Valium, anyone?

Here is a peek into a minute of my life with my very entertaining, energy-overloaded, exhausting children. They are fun, though. And I get to do this all summer long!

Some of my favorite lines:
"Check out my awesome move!"
"I'm burning calories!"
"Hey, that's my reputation!"

PS If you click on the video it pulls it up on YouTube so you can have a wider view. For some reason on here all the video clips are very narrow.

End of Year Happenings

Does anyone else feel like May is basically as busy as the holiday season? I swear every concert, field trip, parents' day, conference, recital, field day, etc. etc. etc. is saved for May. My kids have been out of school since last Friday, so the craziness is finally over. Or does that mean it is just beginning????

To sum up some happenings:

Big J finished 3rd grade. At the end of year awards ceremony he was given a "Zero Tardies" trophy (thanks carpool mom who took every morning!) which is a big deal at their school and recognition in both math and reading for the assessment tests for scoring Exceptional in both categories. He was one of five and one of seven kids to receive that recognition from the 3rd and 4th grades combined, so pretty cool. He was voted "best reader" by his class. He ran for Student Council Treasurer but lost by 2 votes. I was really proud of him for trying and for giving his speech to the big school assembly. Big J also had his first piano recital and did really well. He was the only one who had memorized his two pieces. I think he likes to perform. My parents, sister and niece were able to come for it. He also just received his Bear in Cub Scouts.

Little J finished 1st grade. He finished the year reading on a 5th grade reading level and also received a "Zero Tardies" trophy, and class recognitions for being voted the "best speller" and "hardest worker". He also scored in the Exceptional categories on his assessments. I know his teacher is going to miss him, despite his, um, energy, because who else will organize her book shelves by color and make her giant pencils for her birthday? He has been losing teeth left and right and I am pretty sure I will have to start pureeing his food if he doesn't grow some others in pretty quickly! He and Big J both saved for a long time to buy themselves Nintendo DSIs, and so he has been very excited to have one.

(This picture has nothing to do with what I just wrote about. But I needed a close up of Little J and it does showcase his mad Lego building skills.)
Little Man went on his first father/son camp out with his dad and brothers. He felt very big getting to fish and sit by the campfire and sleep in a tent. He is going to go to Vacation Bible School in a few weeks for the first time and also take swim lessons for the first time. He can often be found with a plastic sword tucked in the back of his shirt.

Little Miss will be a year old in 2 weeks!! She has 6 teeth and doesn't say any words but will sign "finished", "sleep", "more", "milk" and wave bye-bye and hello. She LOVES her brothers. Loves. Them. Wants to be with them. Gets excited to see them. Wrestles with them. Kisses on them. Sits on them - particularly their heads if they are laying on the floor. She has also discovered the joys of being outside after our incredibly long and depressing winter. Lately she has been the biggest cheeser making these really funny faces where she squinks up her nose and squints her eyes with this big cheesy grin. And she likes to shake her groove thing. Any music that comes on, she is rockin' out to it. Yeah, she pretty much runs the show.

Children are too honest

Conversation with Little Man this morning after giving him a kiss:

Little Man: You got lipstick on me! (wiping his lips)

Me: No, I didn't. I don't have any makeup on right now.

Little Man: Why not?

Me: Because I haven't gotten ready yet. Why? Don't you think I look pretty without makeup on?

Little Man: No, uglier.

Me (laughing): Do I look younger or older?

Little Man: Older.

Me: *Sigh*
